Aerochamps is a competition sport aerobics and cheerleading program which is operated at various venues in Melbourne. The Lilydale Gym and Glen Iris venues are open to the public.
In the past one athlete from Lilydale Gym and two from Loreto joined together to form an Elite Trio. This Trio went to the 2003 World Aerobics Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia and came 7th! One of the athletes, Karen Cater (who started aerobics in Year 6) coaches at Lilydale Gym and has completed a Diploma in Sport Management. Karen does an exceptional job helping with the Optional teams.
Another coach includes Ellie Bunn, the current Victorian Elite Female Champion and ranked 4th in Australia. Ellie has been coaching Sport Aerobics for 5 years and competing for 8. After completing her Arts Degree in Psychology she decided to train and coach full time. Ellie coaches at many schools around Melbourne and had at least 10 teams make the National Sport Aerobics and AEROSkools Championships in 2005!
Kerryn Cormick is an ex-competitor and now just concentrates on coaching and getting the best results for her athletes. Her aim is to make every athlete independent and train the hardest and smartest they can to achieve optimum results.
After Kerryn competed as a Level 9 gymnast she spent her Year 12 competing in Sport Aerobics. After winning the State Championships and placing 4th in Australia an injury got the better of her and she decided to concentrate on University Studies putting competition aerobics on hold. Kerryn completed a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Physical Education and then a Graduate Diploma in Sport Management.
After 5 years of studying Kerryn also competed in Ms Fitness competitions and was the Victorian Champion and National Runner Up. Her competition experience also includes Step Team Australian Champion at the 2000 and 2001 National Titles and 6th in the World. She has travelled with the Australian Aerobics Team to the USA and Japan 4 times and is the choreographer and co-ordinator for the National Levels/AEROskools Program. This voluntary role she takes very seriously as it is the future of the sport and she feels obtaining the fundamentals is the key to being an elite champion.
